Today and tomorrow

This morning showed us that spring brings a little bit of winter with the little bit of summer we wish for. This kind of lawn is exciting in December. In March, it is more of the same, oh no, not again. I am glad I had a good ride yesterday. This all melted by afternoon, and I took Shadow for a walk through the mud and slush in the forest.
This picture is from the big race last spring, but I did not select it for all those lovely people on the bridge. I selected it to show the pointy tower in the background where I will be doing jury duty tomorrow morning. I hope all the lawyers and judges are up and to the courthouse by 8:00 just like I will be. Due to lack of parking downtown, they offered me a bus pass instead of driving reimbursement. Will they pay me for the 1.25 mile ride on my bike to the bus or the circuitous ride I choose to take on the way home?

State Archery Shoot Out

Yesterday, we drove to Wenatchee in the rain for the State Archery competition. It included kids from fifth grade through high school. Each year more schools have participated as the local archery clubs and wildlife organizations have supplied more schools with equipment to start programs. This was the first year our school attended, though they have been learning to use bows and arrows for a while. My son watched the older kids join the club after school and shoot during PE last year. This year he is a part of it all, and he loves it.

Archery is an equal opportunity sport. The top female shooter of the day was from an elementary school. The top male shooter was from high school, but he only beat her by a few points out of the 300 possible. My boy is still working on refining his techinque from 15 meters. Overall, I was pleased by his shooting.

The team from our fine elementary school.

My favorite archer.
Waiting for the action to commence.
Tools of the trade.
Something to shoot.
Where to aim.
Boys and girls shoot together. My son was sharing a target with a lefty.
Then they moved back to the 15 meter line.
Some of the kids left early, these were left to claim the second place trophy which all worked to earn.A little neck hardware for each shooter.

Spring is sprung

We are down to a strip of snow at the edge of the grass on the first day of spring.Warm sunshine and a warm dog welcome spring. Just a little patch of the white stuff out there in the corner. You can still see the top of the neighbor's pile where he shoveled it all off his roof two months ago.

You shouldn't have

Really. I mean it. Thank you brother for all you do.I did not feel left out, not receiving little boxes like my brother and my sister. Of course I did say I want these things, and I will find a use for them. I will find a use for the Sweet Potato Browine mix the soonest.

Please note that the shipping department just taped down the flaps they way they were on the yellow box. With lots of tape. It was very interesting to find a way into it.

I can talk about it now. . .

Last Monday we woke up to single digit temperatures with precipitation. We thought we were done with this for the season, but look, no road again.
Just lumpy white stuff to drive on.
They should really make this sign bigger. If I could read it from 50 feet, I might stay back. Of course, the sand spraying out the back of the truck is the second clue after the yellow sign. Fortunately, we were both at a signal, and he was leaving the sand in the truck.

Today we almost hit the half century mark on the old thermometer. Life is getting better.
