Performing Arts

We attended a band concert last night at the middle school, played by the elementary school kids. My boy is there in the back row. He is in fifth grade, but he auditioned and was accepted into the sixth grade band, which he thinks is awesome. It must be. His bus comes at 8:55 every morning to pick him up. Band starts at 8:00 and he is required to be there by 7:55. Usually I drop him off by 7:40. He catches a bus from the middle school to his school three days a week after band. On the two days he might sleep in, he practices before the bus comes.

Road to the future?

Someone has a new cell phone which has a qwerty keyboard to facilitate her texting habit. It is almost as cute as she is.
Today I went for a ride and found a sign which suggests that the new road from half way across town to my side of town actually exists. WSDOT actually has plans to make this road go all the way to I90 someday, but not soon. The 10 year statement has been there for at least three years now.
What a nice traffic circle.
Oh, wait, how do I get to that new road?
Maybe by the time this green stuff grows into grass they will let us drive on the new road.
Oh, and Phantom of the Opera was fabulous on Sunday. Sorry you all missed it.

Goings on around home

Saturday would not be the same without a cross country race. I grabbed this shot of the start before setting up to hand out ribbons to the boys as they finished. Another mom handled the girls. It is not polite to eat ice cream on the stairs when one has a dog. At least, one should share.
Yesterday I took a ride on the trail. I made it to the trail around mile 33, but this is the first picture I took. It was a beautiful day with lots of sunshine, but no wind. It was warm enough to ride, but not too hot, now that fall is upon us.
The trail follows the river, but it does a lot of up and down along the way. I have just climbed a rather challenging hill.
This mile marker is at the top of the famed Doomsday Hill on the Bloomsday course. I rode up it last week with the wind at my back. This week, it was not bad without the wind. From this marker to the one in the picture below, the trail is unmarked, almost nonexistent. Pick your own route on the city streets from one point to the other. I went one way last week and another this week, but neither had trail marker signs along the way. Both claimed to be bike routes though.
Where did the missing three miles go?A trip downtown is not complete without a stop at the falls, which seem to be lacking in the commodity which passes over and falls. We will be back here on Sunday afternoon for Phantom of the Opera in the shiny building on the right. This dammed part of the river has water, because it is above the power plant. Note how much closer I am to the level of the water now. Of course, I am above the falls too.Back on the trail again. If the city must close my pool before the end of the swim season to tear it out and renovate it, they ought to do more than build a second fence around the enclosure. I have been swimming at the community college in the mornings, but I would swim here at midday if they still had the good sense to keep water in the pool.
Oh, and I signed up for another triathlon this morning. Registration opened at midnight. You can see when it was full here.

Reading the really important news today

It is a sad day for cookie lovers, but a good one for bicycle commuters.

Rocks still fall in Yosemite.

I finally emptied my phone card

. . . and look what I found!

A birthday boy, who obviously is fond of my favorite sport, eating well as he turns 13.It is difficult to take small children to places that sell toys. They think they can play with everything. My home away from home in the wee hours of the morning. The best way to put it, is that I am usually home by 7:00 AM after swimming.
I found this scary duo at the entrance to Fred Meyer this morning. I think they are getting ready to really scare people for Halloween. I am glad to be a Cross Country Mom and a Track Mom, not a Hockey Mom. I am the kind that does not need lipstick. How can someone with such dark hair seem so blonde?
