A post a day?

This one had better cover three days then. I am not certain I have sufficient words for a post every day. November is interesting, but I run out of words.

Tonight we set the clocks back, which seems at least a week late for anyone who wanted to wait until dark to trick or treat this week. For the first time in my son's life, we actually live in a neighborhood where that childhood passtime is an option. Something about 300 foot driveways just discourages the little beggars. He dressed up in his new ski suit and we went house to house.He brought home a huge bag of candy and had a great time. We left the skis and poles home and took a bag with us instead. Lots of folks thought he was a biker (pedal or motorcycle?) but he told them all that he is a skier.

Forget fall, winter is here

We went out yesterday afternoon for a fun day at Riverfront Park. Why just skate when you can juggle your gloves too?
Of course the highlight of the experience is watching the guy with his zamboni drive around the rink a few times.
Parking on the other side of the river makes for a pretty walk back to the car at the end of the day.
Sunset on the river is pretty even when most of the water goes through the power plant on the left rather than through this channel.
A good time was had by all.

Who needs heat?

Certain jobs should be done on warm days. For example, today we are replacing our furnace. Yesterday at this time, the red mark was much farther to the right. We were leaning even farther to the left at 8:00 when the guys arrived and killed the old furnace. By 11:00 in the morning, it is still a bit brisk out.

This one claims 80 percent efficiency, but at 34 years of age, I doubt it is doing as well as it once did. Of course right now, it is not doing well at all sitting in the driveway.

Note the difference in the heat exchangers and the box around them. I am most interested in the reduced size of the exhaust. The new one is so efficient it actually needs a drain to take away the water that is condensed out of the natural gas. It has other modern features that promise to keep the heat more even from basement to second floor, such as a variable speed fan and two stage heating.

I will let you know later how it really works. Just now, it is still find its way into the little corner where it will live.

I almost forgot to show you how well the kids run. High school ran in the morning. . . Elementary kids ran in the afternoon. . .

Whoever wrote these rules had no idea how to have a good time at the park. I mean, really, why not plant the play equipment over concrete. It would facilitate leaf removal, and add to the challenge for the kids.
